Information System Security Officer (ISSO) – Hybrid in Arlington, VA
Our client is seeking an experienced Information System Security Officer (ISSO) to support Certification & Accreditation (C&A) activities and manage IT security requirements for a federal program. This role requires the ability to work on-site in Arlington, VA three days per week with two days remote .
Position Overview
The ISSO will support security documentation, compliance activities, continuous monitoring, and overall security posture for mission-critical systems. This position focuses heavily on working within DHS C&A processes and ensuring system readiness for ATO activities.
Required Experience and Skills
• 5–7 years of ISSO experience
• Experience navigating the DHS C&A system (Xacta), including updating and maintaining required ATO artifacts
• Ability to draft and maintain key security documentation, including SSPs, CPs, ISAs, and related materials
• Hands-on experience with NIST frameworks, including NIST 800-53 and NIST 800-37 (RMF)
• Experience implementing and tracking POA&Ms through mitigation
• Proficiency using Tenable Nessus scanning tools
• Strong understanding of operating systems, network architecture, web applications, and database security
• Experience working with AWS GovCloud (US) security controls
• Experience supporting C&A, FISMA, and other federal oversight activities
• Ability to prepare and submit complete system security packages for AO approval
• Ability to review audit logs and conduct system/application security audits
• Relevant certifications (Security+, CISSP, CEH, or equivalent)
