Engineering Associate – Water Resources - 634095

Location: Raleigh, NC

Experience Required: 2–5 years

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Water Resources Engineer with 2–5 years of relevant experience to support a growing water resources team based in Raleigh, NC. This role involves applying civil, environmental, and water resources engineering principles to a range of public and private sector projects. You’ll work closely with an experienced practice leader who offers strong mentorship and technical guidance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and evaluations for various infrastructure and planning projects.
  • Use GIS tools and applications for hydrologic analysis and data visualization.
  • Perform stormwater analyses and calculations using industry-standard software (AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM).
  • Design storm drainage systems, including storm sewers, culverts, open channels, inlets, and detention facilities.
  • Assist in the preparation of capital improvement plans and watershed management studies.
  • Coordinate with local and state regulatory agencies and respond to plan review comments.
  • Support the development of erosion and sediment control plans and stormwater management facilities.
  • Prepare nutrient management and pollutant loading calculations as needed.
  • Contribute to riverine floodplain analyses and FEMA-related mapping and permitting efforts (e.g., No-Rise Certifications, CLOMR/LOMR applications).
  • Produce construction drawings, technical specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance within the Water Resources Team.
  • Develop technical documentation, including reports and memos, that clearly outline methodologies, assumptions, and findings.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline (highly preferred).
  • 2–5 years of relevant water resources or stormwater engineering experience; co-op, internship, or research experience may be considered toward this.
  • EI (Engineer Intern) certification preferred.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and SWMM strongly desired.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
