Job Summary:
Marea Beverly Hills is seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Sommelier to oversee the wine program and deliver an exceptional guest experience through wine pairings, recommendations, and education. The ideal candidate will have an extensive knowledge of wine, with an emphasis on Italian and European wines, as well as a keen understanding of food and wine pairings. As Sommelier, you will collaborate with the kitchen and beverage teams to curate a wine list that complements Marea’s coastal Italian cuisine and enhances the overall dining experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  •  Provide professional and personalized wine service to guests, recommending selections that enhance their meal and creating memorable experiences.
  • Develop and offer wine pairings that complement Marea’s menu, paying special attention to seasonal dishes and guest preferences.
  • Assist in the creation, development, and maintenance of the wine list, ensuring a diverse and balanced selection of both local and international wines, with a focus on Italian and European varietals.
  • Monitor and manage wine inventory, order new stock as necessary, and ensure proper storage conditions.
  • Engage with guests to understand their wine preferences and offer insightful, personalized recommendations.
  • Conduct regular wine training sessions for the front-of-house staff, enhancing their knowledge of the wine program and their ability to make recommendations.
  • Promote and upsell high-quality wines to elevate the guest experience and drive sales.
  • Work closely with the Executive Chef and Beverage Director to create seasonal wine offerings and ensure that the wine list aligns with the overall restaurant vision.

Qualifications:

  • At least 3-5 years of experience as a Sommelier or similar role in a fine dining or upscale restaurant environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of Italian and European wines, as well as general wine theory, varietals, and regions.
  • A strong understanding of wine and food pairings, especially with Italian coastal cuisine.
  • Excellent communication and guest interaction skills, with the ability to convey wine knowledge in an approachable and engaging manner.
  • Proven ability to manage and maintain wine inventory.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Certified Sommelier credential (Court of Master Sommeliers or similar) is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and a passion for hospitality.
