Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Engineer to lead the grid interconnection process and conduct in-depth analysis of substations and transmission & distribution systems. This role is critical in supporting the successful integration of natural gas generation sites, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and other energy infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have experience with T&D infrastructure and design, utility interconnection processes, power flow studies, system impact assessments, and regulatory compliance related to T&D networks.

You Will:

  • Own and manage the grid interconnection process from feasibility through to final approval for new projects.
  • Prepare and submit interconnection applications, ensuring compliance with utility and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop single line diagrams, general arrangements, FEED analyses, and equipment specifications.
  • Engage with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and regulatory bodies to facilitate interconnection approvals and project execution.
  • Analyze queue positions, study results, and interconnection agreements to optimize project timelines and costs.
  • Evaluate substation configurations, equipment ratings, and system protection schemes for integration feasibility.
  • Identify transmission constraints, network upgrades, and system reinforcements required for interconnection.
  • Work cross-functionally with project developers, engineers, and regulatory teams to ensure smooth interconnection execution.
  • Support economic and feasibility studies by assessing tariffs, congestion risks, and capacity availability.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Must be able to legally work in the United States of America.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in substation/T&D engineering, transmission planning, and/or grid studies.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in power engineering or working towards licensure preferred.
  • Knowledge of ISO/RTO interconnection study processes, including Feasibility Studies, System Impact Studies (SIS), and Facilities Studies.
  • Experience working with utilities, developers, or consultants in the energy sector.
  • Knowledge of power system modeling and simulation tools (PSSE, PSCAD, PowerWorld, ETAP, or similar) preferred.
  • Understanding of NERC, FERC, IEEE 1547, and utility interconnection standards.
  • Familiarity with transmission line design, conductor sizing, substation components, including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and protection systems.
  • Familiarity with DER integration, microgrid design, and distribution system planning.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time (primarily U.S. locations).
  • Strong project management skills to handle multiple interconnection processes across different utilities and ISOs/RTOs.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with project developers, utilities, EPC firms, regulatory bodies, and internal engineering teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills.
  • Excellent communication skills for engaging with stakeholders and presenting technical findings.
  • Self-motivated and proactive work ethic, identifying and communicating opportunities and challenges in a timely manner.
