Ocean Export Specialist – International Freight Forwarding

Location: Jersey City, NJ (On-site)

A global freight forwarder is seeking an experienced Ocean Export Specialist to join its operations team in Jersey City, NJ . This is an execution-focused role responsible for handling end-to-end export shipments across FCL, LCL, and special equipment movements. The ideal candidate will have a strong command of export documentation, carrier booking, compliance, and customer coordination across major U.S. ports.

You’ll work closely with clients, overseas agents, steamship lines, and internal teams to ensure timely, compliant, and margin-positive movement of international ocean freight.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage full-cycle FCL and LCL export shipments from booking to final POD
• Coordinate bookings with carriers and NVOCCs based on client routing instructions and Incoterms
• Prepare and audit shipping documents including bills of lading, commercial invoices, AES filings, and packing lists
• File VGM declarations and ensure compliance with all FMC and export control regulations
• Communicate with customers, vendors, and overseas agents on shipment status and documentation flow
• Monitor sailings, cut-offs, and drayage activity to prevent rollovers or delays
• Handle hazmat cargo coordination, letters of credit, and destination-specific requirements (e.g., BSC/CTN)
• Ensure all shipment milestones are updated accurately in CargoWise One or internal TMS
• Resolve operational issues, billing discrepancies, and container releases with carriers or port terminals
• Provide support to the export manager on overflow accounts, client onboarding, and carrier performance reviews

Candidate Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in international ocean export operations
• Proven ability to manage multiple export files simultaneously with precision and urgency
• Strong understanding of export compliance, carrier requirements, Incoterms, and documentation standards
• Hands-on experience with CargoWise One or equivalent freight forwarding platforms
• Familiarity with hazmat documentation, special equipment (flat rack, open top), and CFS consolidation
• Excellent communication and coordination skills across internal teams and global partners
• Ability to work on-site in Jersey City and collaborate cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment
