Industrial Engineer – Distribution Center

With a busy, 250,0000 square foot Distribution Center (DC) that is in Allen, Texas, and which is the heart of the supply of parts for their North American business (US domestic supply, Canada and Mexico); and critical to their global operations, we are seeking an experienced Industrial Engineer to support the Parts and Services Division (PSD) operations in Allen, TX.

Part of a small team (6 members), you will drive improvements and innovation, and new ways of working in the Distribution Center. Innovative, possessing a mindset geared towards continuous improvement – your role is to identify areas for process improvement opportunities to drive efficiency, distribution center capacity, and improved workflow; roll out those improvements across the DC with a focus on customer (internal and external) needs, and then train employee populations on the new way of working.

The Team You Will Join:

This small diverse team works collaboratively to eliminate errors across the distribution center. Having operations housed within two buildings, and warehouse personnel working on three shifts, (comprised of approximately 100 warehousers & a corporate Supply Chain team also co-located), improvement projects are broad and may include exposure to various global industrial engineering teams worldwide. As one of two engineers in the team (the other a packaging engineer) you lead and control multiple projects simultaneously. Focusing on warehouse layouts, packaging improvements, system improvements, internal staff training; the goal of this team is to identify systemic problems within the distribution center and eliminate errors.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Logistics Development Manager, you will play a key role in developing warehouse and logistics processes and systems across all operational functions of the Distribution Center. A “Utility Player” – you are a well-rounded industrial engineer, who utilizes various analytical tools and methodologies to improve efficiency/productivity. These tools include histograms, time studies, Kaizen events and PFEP PFED (Process Flow and Equipment Diagram Plan for every part) analysis. Skilled at value stream mapping, capacity planning, facility design and layout optimization, you will use your project management skills and mathematical mindset to understand the current processes and procedures and will improve them.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Drive improvement independently and be an innovator of new ways of working

· Drive the development of processes and ensure an efficient flow of operational functions, always keeping in mind the need for a safe working environment

· Contribute to the organization’s understanding and focus on customer needs

· Develop new processes to enable efficiency & effectiveness

· Design & implement operational layouts to improve internal processes

· Project Leader for new initiatives related to the distribution center including the evaluation of new investments, pre-studies, implementation and commissioning

· Train employees at the distribution center in new processes and routines

· Collaborate: work in close collaboration across all departments, ensuring adequate communication within each function of the Distribution Center

· Benchmark and provide appropriate tools to measure business performance

· Work with continuous improvement initiatives

· Supervise and direct the activities of Warehouse Auditors, such that they support the responsibilities listed above

You Bring:

Knowledge and Experience:

· Minimum two+ years’ work experience in an industrial manufacturing environment

· University degree in Industrial Engineering

· Experience working with a warehouse management system (WMS)

· Understanding of Metrics and KPI’s as well as how to impact them

· Proven technical skills:

o Process design for efficient operational workflow

o Process improvement development to drive operational efficiency/ productivity

o Implementation of new operational layouts to improve internal processes

o Capacity assessment and planning ability

o Change Management

· Solid organization and follow up skills

· A penchant for quality with working knowledge of ISO 9001 and 14001

· Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including ability to perform V-lookups, and pivot table experience
