Job Description

A team supporting over 15 million users is looking for a Director of Mobile Engineering to lead its iOS and Android development efforts. This is a second-line leadership role reporting directly to a co-founder and focused on shaping the long-term direction, architecture, and quality of a core mobile product used by students navigating their early careers.

The mobile app is a primary entry point for users, and this role is responsible for ensuring it's reliable, performant, and intuitive — while also building and scaling the team behind it.

Responsibilities

• Lead mobile engineering across iOS and Android, including product teams and shared platform efforts
• Set and evolve the technical strategy for mobile architecture, infrastructure, and tooling
• Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Data teams to ship mobile-first features
• Build and grow a strong, inclusive engineering team, including managers and individual contributors
• Invest in developer productivity through CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and performance monitoring
• Establish clear standards for app quality, stability, and performance
• Foster a team culture of inclusion, trust, and continuous improvement

Qualifications

• Strong experience leading engineering teams, including managing managers and scaling across platforms
• 8+ years of experience developing mobile applications with deep expertise in Swift/SwiftUI and Kotlin
• Experience building consumer-scale mobile apps and infrastructure
• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills
• Background in improving developer workflows and mobile performance
• Experience hiring and developing engineering talent
• Comfortable working in fast-moving, product-led environments
