Position Summary
A precision machining facility in Hopkins is seeking an experienced CNC Set-Up Machinist. This role is responsible for performing complex CNC set-ups, operating machine tools, and producing high-quality components with minimal supervision. The machinist will collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve processes, tooling, and equipment performance.
Key Responsibilities
CNC Set-Ups & Operation
• Perform complex CNC set-ups on at least one major machine tool type with minimal supervision.
• Operate CNC machines to produce components that meet quality and production targets.
• Make tool changes, offsets, and machine adjustments as needed.
• Perform minor program edits at the machine; complete major edits under supervision.
• Follow setup sheets, process documents, and tooling instructions.
Quality & Precision
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications.
• Inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, indicators, comparators, and CMM equipment.
• Utilize process-control techniques to ensure all parts meet tolerance and finish requirements.
• Document results and report any non-conformances immediately.
Maintenance & Production Support
• Perform routine machine maintenance, lubrication, and cleaning.
• Assist in troubleshooting machine or tooling issues to minimize downtime.
• Support Lean, 5S, and ISO-driven improvement initiatives.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times.
Teamwork & Communication
• Coordinate with supervisors, engineers, and programmers regarding tooling, processes, and product requirements.
• Work collaboratively with other machinists to ensure smooth production flow.
• Follow all safety and housekeeping procedures.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2-year machining degree or technical certificate preferred.
• 0–5 years of CNC machining or manufacturing experience.
• Ability to independently set up CNC machines on at least one platform.
• Proficiency with precision measuring equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with ISO, 5S, or Lean Manufacturing is a plus.
