Kittery Trading Post/ Chief Retail Officer/ Kittery, Maine

We are working with our client, Kittery Trading Post , a well-established family-owned retail business for over 80 years, with an opportunity for a Chief Retail Officer to join their team working in Kittery, Maine .

The Chief Retail Officer (CRO) is responsible for overseeing merchandise strategy, driving sales growth, enhancing customer experience, and ensuring operational efficiency across all operations. The CRO will direct operations for the retail store, E-commerce, warehouse, and distribution.

Requirements for the Chief Retail Officer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field; Master’s preferred
  • 10+ years leadership experience in Retail multi-location operations
  • 5+ years in a senior level leadership position with a strong track record of driving sales and improving customer experience.
  • Hands on leader with a focus on customer and operational excellence and profitability with ability to leverage data to inform decision making and strategic planning.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills capable of motivating and developing teams to achieve high performance.
  • Ability to adapt to changing market conditions and consumer preferences, demonstrating agility in strategy execution.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees and customers
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and P&L management
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in both hard and soft goods, firearms sales, warehouse and distribution operations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Responsibilities of the Chief Retail Officer:

  • Manage vendor and merchandise buying team relationships. This includes promoting a sales and service culture, setting performance standards, and overseeing retail and marketing functions.
  • Build highly effective teams through coaching and leadership development activities
  • Develop and implement retail strategies that align with the company's overall objectives, focusing on sales growth and customer satisfaction.
  • Utilize analytics to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and assess the effectiveness of retail initiatives.
  • Guide and mentor cross-functional teams, fostering a culture of collaboration and exceptional customer service
  • Enhance the customer journey by implementing best practices in service delivery and ensuring that the retail experience aligns with the brand's values.
  • Stay informed about market trends, consumer behavior, and competitive dynamics to make informed decisions that drive the retail strategy forward.
  • Optimize inventory management and streamline operations to improve profitability and reduce costs.
