Job Description

SUMMARY:

A benefits specialist is responsible for responding to all inquiries about company insurance and retirement benefits, ensures that employees receive the proper benefits package, coordinates with benefits brokers, following up on claims with health care providers and acts as liaison to retirement fund advisors, and consults with managers and company CEOs about newly available benefits and insurance plans.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Manages employee health insurance and health care plans, 401k plans, FSAs, HAS, and HRA accounts.
  • Provides benefits information to new hires in onboarding. Assists new hires to enroll in benefits.
  • Ensures proper paycheck deductions for benefits. Reviews benefits invoices against enrollments, changes, true ups.
  • Addresses employee inquiries about their insurance or retirement benefits.
  • Acts as liaison between employee, broker, and /or provider as necessary.
  • Maintains individual employee benefits records.
  • Makes changes or alterations to benefits packages as necessary.
  • Resolves any problems or disputes regarding provision of benefits.
  • Provides reports and coordinates with Accounts payable and payroll
  • Stays current on state and federal regulations concerning insurance and other employee benefits.
  • Researches alternate benefits packages to remain competitive to attract and retain talent.
  • Presents ideas for additional benefits to VP HR.
  • Negotiates with insurance companies to receive better employee benefits.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field is required.
  • 3-5 years’ work experience in HR administration or benefits administration is Demonstrates broad knowledge of the variety and structure of retirement plans, including 401(k)’s to IRAs and Roth IRA’s, and other retirement products.
  • Possesses knowledge of the laws surrounding benefits and compensation for employers.
  • Demonstrates broad knowledge of different health insurance plans, HMOs and PPOs, and HDHP.
  • Exhibits solid organizational skills.
  • Knowledgeable in claims resolution process, demonstrates initiative to assist employees with complex benefits issues.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to translate legal, medical, and insurance-related jargon into layman’s terms for clarification purposes.
  • Demonstrates ability to conduct independent research into new benefits plans and changes to insurance and healthcare regulations.
  • Is capable of reading, interpreting, and explaining insurance invoices.
  • Exhibits ability to maintain relationships with insurance and healthcare providers.
  • Ability to extract reports from insurance providers and brokers, provide analysis and tracking to payroll and finance on a regular basis.

Candidates must be located in the Morgan Hill area and be able to commute to the office.

The salary range for this position is $85,000–$115,000, depending on experience. Compensation is structured as a 90/10 split—90% base salary and 10% annual bonus.
